Alia2 Foundation launches an initiative to educate mothers and fathers about how their children use social networking sites and the Internet, offering training talks in their workplaces and in companies.

According to the “Generacion 2.0” report  about “Habits of teenagers with the use of social networking”, published by Camilo Jose Cela University in 2010, majority of young people knows about existence of Social Networking sites through their friends. This majority is claimed to be around 78% by the report. Since the emergence of a digital branch there is a change of who is in charge and who controls the use of technology. Some parents are not able to give advice to their kids on appropriate use of technology, thus not giving them any example on how to use it correctly.

For this reason, Alia2 Foundation considers it essential to educate parents, so they have tools and knowledge to teach responsible use of Internet and Social Networking to their children. Therefore, as we are aware of today’s difficulties like reconciling work and family life, our team of psychologists has decided to address various companies to educate mothers and fathers in their workplace and provide seminars on the proper use of the Internet.

Fifty IBM Madrid employees receive a seminar of Alia2 Foundation

On Thursday June 2nd, a group of mothers and fathers who work at this company received an educational seminar during their work hours.

The participants claimed to know the dangers their children are exposed to when surfing the Web and yet, after receiving the training, confirmed that they have learned uses and techniques that they never knew existed. When we offered parents a possibility of giving such seminars to their children in schools, they seemed enthusiastic about it. One mother told us, "If I tell it to them myself, they would not listen to me."

Thus, parents learned not only what tools are available, but also that there is a possibility for their children to be educated and be aware of the dangers they are exposed to through an expert psychologist.

These are the activities that make Alia2 Foundation keep on working every day, and get more and more parents to be aware of the tools that they have available in order to fight the risks to which their children are exposed to on the Internet.
